The Gordon House block today

From Hennessy:

I think we have about beat the cupola to death. We THINK we know where it was (though we leave some room for doubt given Eric’s work), we know what it looked like, but we can’t say what it was or who owned it.  If we find anything new, or if any of you do (we ought to award some sort of unofficial US government prize to whoever solves the mystery), we’ll post it.  But for now, we’ll move on, leaving a final image, courtesy of John Cummings: an aerial view of the block today with some labels and overlays.  The top of the image is roughly north.

Word today at Chatham is that Noel Harrison is nearly done with a post that looks at a great image of the upper pontoon crossing.  No one is better at interpreting historic photographs than Noel…  Stay tuned.
